The Sheriff is a constitutionally elected officer who is responsible for the law enforcement functions, such as the reporting and investigation of crimes, traffic enforcement and keeping the peace in the unincorporated portions of the county. The Sheriff is responsbile for the service of civil process throughout the county. The Sheriff is appointed by the County Commission to operate of the County Jail.

Within the Charlotte County Sheriff's Office, the Executive Officer directly oversees the commanders of the Bureau of Law Enforcement, the Bureau of Support Services and the Bureau of Corrections, as well as the Finance Division and the Public Information Officer.

Finance Division is responsible for the financial and budgeting operations of the Sheriff's Office. Its functions include developing and monitoring of the Sheriff's Office budget, payroll, accounts payable, accounts receivable, cash management, grants, purchasing, property and inventory, and financial reporting.

Finance is open from 7:30 to 5:00 pm, Monday through Friday, except holidays. All finance personnel are cross-trained to answer most of the finance-related questions. Other finance personnel can be reached at:

The Public Information Officer is the spokesperson for the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office and liaison to the media and public. The PIO sends out news releases concerning arrests, investigation, public notices, and news of general interest involving the Sheriff’s Office. Most of this information is published via Facebook and Twitter.

The PIO’s office hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.
