Special Assignment Under general supervision, completes, maintains and processes accurate and timely records on information relating to the Corrections Transportation Unit. The work involves data entry and retrieval, completing logs and forms, scheduling and confirming transportation arrangements, completing reports and maintaining statistical data. Work is reviewed for results and compliance with standard operating procedures. Work requires the performance of various clerical and manual assignments with some latitude for independent judgment within established policies and procedures. Work is reviewed by a superior through observation of work activities, task completion, and efficiency of operation procedures.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Knowledge of the major roads and highways in Charlotte County. Knowledge of filing and basic record keeping. Knowledge of CCSO Operations Manual, Corrections Operation Manual and relevant procedures. Knowledge of standard office practices and procedures. Ability to keep accurate and complete records and to fill out the forms, reports, logs. Ability to answer questions, and/or to determine the appropriate unit to which calls should be directed. Ability to alphabetize, code, numerically rank, sort and batch. Skilled in mathematical analysis. Produces analytical and informational reports related to Inmate Population, Transportation, Programs, and other Support Service trending. Member will be able to make suggestions for improvements or modifications of current operational standards based off of these trending analyses. Reviews forms, records and reports to ensure that information is correct and complete. Ability to not divulge confidential information. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships. Ability to use reference materials, manuals and guides related to the work. Knowledge of correct English usage. Knowledge of Florida motor vehicle laws and safe driving practices. Ability to deal courteously and effectively with the public. Ability to operate all equipment listed in the EQUIPMENT USED section. Ability to follow established route and schedule. Ability to make arithmetical computations with speed and accuracy. Ability to work independently without constant supervision. Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions. Ability to drive an office vehicle. Ability to readily perform assigned tasks and to adhere to established procedures.
Education or Equivalent Experience Required Two (2) year degree from accredited college or university; or equivalent experience in a work discipline applicable to the requirements of the position. Must have acquired skill and understanding of record keeping and data entry. Must not be on any of the following types of probationary status: new hire, rehire, disciplinary probation.
Proficiency Requirements Must be proficient in the use of all office equipment including Microsoft Office, Specialized scanners and software within 30 days of hire date.

Physical Effort Required Standing or walking for long periods. Push /pull 5-10lbs force opening doors and operating vehicle, 15-20 lbs of force operating two wheeled cart. Repeated bending, crouching, kneeling, stooping, stretching, climbing Frequently lifting 25 to 35 pounds of mail/records, paper to and from vehicle. Lifts packages weighing up to 40 pounds; and occasionally lifts packages in excess of 50 pounds. Very frequent attention to detailed reading/sorting. Constant use of both hands and arms in operating a vehicle to drive to pick up crates, pouches and mail. Constant use of sight in performance of all duties. Frequently use of speech and hearing in interacting with public and co-workers. Frequently standing/walking to distribute office mail/records to county and agency facilities.
Working Conditions Works during inclement weather conditions. Work may require flexible hours, days and holidays which may include weekends. Some inmate contact. NOTE: All employees who have direct inmate contact are required to have a medical exam/screening which includes a PPD (TB screening) prior to job assignment. Any positives on the PPD will require further evaluations by the Health Department. Re-examination shall be given according to a defined need or schedule. This requirement is to protect the employee, the agency and the inmates from any physical condition that might impact the ability of the employee to perform their job in a safe and efficient manner. Exposure to moving vehicles, dealing with high traffic situations. Constant use of both hands and arms in operating a vehicle to drive to pick up crates, pouches and mail. Constant use of sight in performance of all duties. Frequently use of speech and hearing in interacting with public and co-workers.. Frequently standing/walking to distribute office mail/records to county and agency facilities. Typical office or similar setting which is adequately lighted, heated and ventilated. Some possible exposure to verbally abusive and physically threatening individuals. The noise level ranges from quiet to loud, but is usually moderate.
