Captain Kenville started his career with the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office in 1984 as a Reserve Deputy; he joined the office as a full time deputy in
1986. He was assigned to Road Patrol working all areas of the county until being transferred to the Investigations Unit, where he worked property crimes. Eventually he was
promoted to Detective Corporal in the Major Crimes Unit.
Upon promotion to the rank of Sergeant, Kenville was transferred back to Road Patrol and assigned to the District One Office where he supervised a patrol
squad. From there he became the supervisor of the districts specialized units which included; Investigations, Marine Unit, School Resource Officer, PAL, Community Policing
Officers, and the district’s Community Service Aids. Kenville transferred back to supervise the Major Crimes Unit. In 2001 he was promoted to Lieutenant and assumed the
supervision of the Major Crimes Unit, Evidence, Crime Scene, and Juvenile Services which consisted of Juvenile Crimes Detectives, Forensic Child Interviewers, SHOCAP/Gang
Detective, School Resource Officers and PAL Officers.
In 2003 Kenville took the position of District One Commander where he ran patrol operations until being promoted to Captain. As Captain he was assigned
the Patrol Commander position, consisting of 3 district road patrol offices, School Resource, Community Policing, Community Relations, PAL and the Watch Commanders. In 2009
Kenville was reassigned as the Investigations Commander, consisting of the Investigations Section, District Investigations Section, Narcotic Investigations Section,
Crime Scene Unit and Evidence Unit.
Captain Kenville is a graduate of the Command Officers Development Course, of the Southern Police Institute University of Louisville. He attended the
Executive Leadership Seminar, of the Florida Department of Law Enforcement Executive Institute. He continues his education and is currently enrolled as a student at Edison State College.
Captain James Kenville and his wife, Alicia, have three children, two boys and a girl. He and his family reside in West Charlotte County.
