Captain Ron Chandler Jr. began his career in
law enforcement as a Reserve Deputy Sheriff in 1987. He became a full time Deputy Sheriff in 1989 and was assigned to patrol duties in the Port Charlotte area.
He also assisted in the Field Training Officers Program training new officers in the new career. In 1995 he moved on to a new assignment as a District Detective.
In 1997 Capt. Chandler moved from the District Detective level to a Detective position within the Major Crimes Unit, working on homicides and
robberies, achieving the rank of corporal within six months of his assignment. Capt. Chandler remained in the Major Crimes Unit from 1997 to 2001 leaving the unit with the rank of Sergeant.
In 2001 Capt. Chandler returned to a District Detective command level running the District 4 Detective Unit. He remained with the unit until 2003
when he was transferred to the Patrol Division as a Watch Commander.
While working as a Watch Commander Capt. Chandler was promoted to the rank of lieutenant and remained as a Watch Commander for another two years before taking on a
new assignment as the District One Commander in Englewood. He remained as the District One Commander for two years leaving the District after being promoted to Captain in 2009.
As a newly promoted Captain, Chandler took over the Operational Support Division; this assignment consisted of overall command of the Aviation Unit, Juvenile,
Volunteer Coordinator, SWAT Unit, Mounted Patrol, Dive and Rescue Team, Crisis Negotiation, K-9 and Marine Unit and Traffic Unit.
Captain Chandler graduated from Saint Leo University with Bachelors Degree in Criminology (1999). In 2008 he earned a Masters in Business Administration from
IMPAC University. Captain Chandler is a 2009 graduate or the Southern Police Institute's Administrative Officer's Course taught at the University of Louisville, Kentucky.
He is currently enrolled at University of Louisville working on a second Masters Degree in Justice Administrative.
