Lt. Michael C. Anderson joined the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office in February 1989 as a Reserve Deputy.
In October of that same year he was hired to a full time position with the Sheriff's Office and attended the Southwest Florida Criminal Justice Academy. After graduation, he was assigned to the
Road Patrol Unit, working the District 2 area. During this time he became a Field Training Officer and successfully trained numerous recruits and eventually coordinated the
Field Training Program in the early 1990’s. In June of 1994, Lt. Michael Anderson was promoted to corporal and continued to patrol the District 2 area, operating out of the Town Center
Mall Substation.
In July of 1996 he was selected to participate in the security of the Summer Olympic Games in Atlanta, Ga. In April of 1998, he was promoted to sergeant.
In 1999, Lt. Michael Anderson was selected to represent the State of Florida in the Final Leg of the Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics in Washington D.C. and North Carolina.
In 2002 Lt. Anderson had the honor to again provide security for the Olympics, this time at the Winter Games in Salt Lake City, Utah.
In 2003, Lt. Michael C. Anderson was promoted to lieutenant and transferred to command the Community Relations Division which grew to encompass School Resource Officers,
Crime Prevention and Community Relations, Community Policing Officers, Reserve Officers, Parking Enforcement Officers and the Sheriff’s Officer Explorer Program. In February 2005, Lt.
Anderson was again selected to represent the State of Florida in the Final Leg of the Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics, this time running from Tokyo, Japan to the Nagano
Prefecture, site of the 1998 Winter Olympic Games. In February of 2008 Lt. Michael Anderson was transferred to be the District 3 Road Patrol Commander. In January 2009 he took over
command of District 2.
Lt. Michael Anderson was born and raised just outside of Chicago, Illinois, and moved to Charlotte County in January of 1987. He earned both his Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal
Justice and Master’s Degree in Criminal Justice Administration from Lynn University. Lt. Anderson also completed the Command Officer’s Development Course through the Southern
Police Institute, University of Louisville, in February of 2005. He is involved in several non-profit organizations. He is currently serving as the President for the Board
of Directors for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Charlotte County and is also on the Florida State Board of Directors for Big Brothers Big Sisters. He is a Class of 2008 graduate from Leadership
Charlotte and will be serving as Vice-Chair for the 2010 class. He just recently regained his role as Regional Director of the Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics.
Lt. Anderson has two daughters, Jessica and Jennifer.
