The Liaison Officer is a unique position designed to enhance the communications between the Charlotte County Sheriff's Office and the local Office of the State Attorney. It is important that the Sheriff’s Office and the State Attorney’s Office continue to work together after an arrest to succeed in the prosecution of the case. The Career Criminal Officer is the Liaison between both agencies. That officer is responsible for bringing together the law enforcement officers and prosecutors throughout the legal process to answer or clarify any additional questions which may arise during a case. The Liaison Officer provides a smooth process for the exchange of information between to the two agencies leading to greater success in the prosecution of offenders.

Since its inception, the Career Criminal Unit has been instrumental in successfully aiding in the prosecution of over 600 Habitual Felony Offenders in Charlotte County. It is only through the combined efforts of the Charlotte County Sheriff's Office and the Office of The State Attorney that this success rate could be obtained.
