Each district has a Criminal Investigations Unit (CID) that is comprised of three detectives and a sergeant. The sergeant is in charge of the day-to-day operations. The district lieutenant reviews any problems or major cases.
The criminal investigator differs from the uniformed patrol deputy in the respect that the investigator is not responsible for daily patrol duties on the road. All the efforts of the detectives are directed to investigation. They are trained in the skill of interrogation, evidence processing, and investigations.
The investigator is responsible for coordinating all aspects of the cases assigned. They complete any interviews that have not been done with the victims, witnesses, suspects, and attorneys. The detectives are responsible for establishing criminal patterns and methods of operation. They also assume the responsibility of finding suspects and tracking leads. The priority of the investigators is to solve crime by bringing any and all cases assigned to a successful conclusion.
