CSI: Charlotte County? Just like on television, the Sheriff's Office Crime Scene Unit personnel respond 24/7 to the scenes of crimes to provide
support to law enforcement operations. Whether it is a homicide, a robbery or a burglary, the personnel assigned to the Crime Scene Unit
are available to respond with their specialized equipment for on scene image recording and evidence detection, collection and preservation.
Every Crime Scene Unit response vehicle is equipped with advanced tools, chemical reagents and instruments for thorough and complete crime scene processing.
The Crime Scene Unit's lab facilities house an array of more complex non-portable equipment for the detection and preservation of evidence.
The Crime Scene Technicians are proficient in:
- Digital and silver based photography
- Photo and video enhancement techniques
- Detection, recovery and examination of latent friction ridge impressions
- Detection, recovery and examination of foot/tire impressions
- Detection, recovery and examination tool marks
- Detection and collection and preservation of serological evidence
- Blood spatter analysis
- Reconstruction techniques
The Crime Scene Unit uses the latest versions of forensic equipment, such as, Alternative Light Source(ALS) , AFIS, AFIX, Ocean D-Tective, Digital video microscope,
Cyano-Vac, and much more. All Crime Scene Unit personnel are constantly improving their skills through continuous training provided by the most advanced schools
and workshops, and our in-house training program.
The Crime Scene Unit also provides forensic training to other Sheriff's Office members, Explorer’s programs, PAL members and interns from various Florida forensic
teaching facilities. If needed, the Crime Scene Unit will assist other agencies in their investigations upon request.
