Gang Suppression Unit

The Gang Suppression Unit of the Charlotte County Sheriff's Office is attached to the Juvenile Operations Unit, and works closely with the school resource officers and the SHOCAP unit.

The unit strives to:

  • Locate, identify, target and disseminate gangs, "wannabe gangs" and gang-like activity
  • Identify, through the help of the community and the school resource officers, at-risk youth in the county
  • Seek out, photograph and record all gang-like graffiti in Charlotte County
  • Monitor activity of students on school campuses in an effort to identify and eliminate potential gang problems and behaviors
  • Conduct gang awareness seminars for teachers, parents and community groups
  • Work with community youth to find alternatives to gang participation
