Originally from South America, Gio Orbe moved to the United States with her parents in the early 1970s. In the 1980s, Gio met and married her husband, Xavier, in Queens, New York. For twelve years, she was employed by Northern Intelligence Agency as a billing coordinator. In 1994, Gio relocated to southwest Florida with her husband and family and began her career with the Charlotte County Sheriff's Office.

Beginning as a part-time finance clerk, Gio worked her way up to a full-time finance assistant, finance supervisor, and finally Finance Director. Gio heads the Finance Division, overseeing the annual budget, payroll, payables, receivables, purchasing, and year-end audit.

Gio is an active member of the Government Finance Officers Association. She holds her B.A. in Accounting and a C.P.P National Certification from the American Payroll Association. Gio is currently working towards her Masters in Accounting and her C.P.A.
