Lt. John Hamp

Lt. John HampLt. John Hamp has been a resident of Charlotte County since 1977 when he moved to the Englewood area. He graduated from Lemon Bay High school and went to the University of South Florida in Tampa where he earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice.

Lt. Hamp spent time as a reserve deputy with the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office before being hired full time in 1991. He spent his first three years as a road patrol deputy in the Englewood area. In about 1994 he was transferred to be a detective in the Englewood area.

Lt. Hamp spent a brief time in the Narcotics Unit before being promoted to corporal and transferred to road patrol in 1998, where he was assigned to the Murdock area. He was transferred to the Punta Gorda area to serve as a corporal in the district investigations unit. In about 2001, Lt. Hamp was transferred along with the other corporals assigned to the various district investigations units to the Major Crimes Unit. He spent two years in Major Crimes specializing in Crimes against Children before being promoted to Countywide Sergeant in 2003.

In 2006 Lt. Hamp enrolled in graduate school and in 2008 he obtained his Master’s Degree in Criminal Justice Administration.

In 2008 he was promoted to lieutenant and assigned as one of the Watch Commanders, who serve as countywide supervisors.

In 2009 newly Lt. Hamp was trasnferred to the position of District Investigations Commander. Later in the year, he returned to his previous position as a Watch Commander.
