Management Information Services (also known as MIS or IT) is composed of a director and seven IT specialists who deal with all of the desktop computers,
laptops and servers used by members of the Sheriff's Office. As the agency grows, this becomes an ever increasing challenge.
Computers are used in virtually every job function at the Sheriff's Office. It is the job of the IT specialists to set up and maintain all of the desktop
computers used throughout the agency. When a user encounters a problem with their computer, regardless whether the problem is with the hardware or the software,
it is the responsibility of the IT specialists to resolve the issue.
IT supports the systems that make the Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) and the laptops in the deputies cars work together. This allows up-to-date information
to be available to all the people working on a call, from the dispatcher to the deputy.
Maintaining and securing the servers that store much of the agency's vital data and the network that keeps everything connected is also the responsibility of
MIS. As with most large businesses, the servers run the business-critical programs such as e-mail, CAD, records management software and the Internet connection.
These servers are mostly kept in locked computer rooms in various facilities.
