Captain William G. Prummell Jr. began his career with the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office in 1992 starting as a reserve deputy until being hired full time as a road
patrol deputy later than year. In April 1995 he was assigned to the Criminal Investigations Unit investigating property crimes and was promoted to Corporal within the unit in April of
2000. In June 2001 he was transferred to the Major Crimes Unit where he investigated serious person’s crimes to include homicide, sexual battery, crimes against children and robbery.
In July of 2003 he was promoted within the unit to Sergeant. In November 2004 he was transferred to Internal Affairs where he was in charge of investigating allegations made against
members of the Sheriff’s Office. In 2004 he helped put together the Hostage Negotiation Team and was team Commander until 2008.
Captain Prummell was promoted to lieutenant in July of 2005 over the Investigations Section and commanded the Major Crimes Unit, Crimes Against Children Unit, Criminal
Investigations Unit, Economic Crimes Unit, Computer Crimes Unit, Crime Scene Unit, Evidence, Crime Analysis, Intelligence/Sex Offender Unit, and Pawn Unit. He also began
the Cold Case Unit which was tasked with investigating older homicides and missing person’s cases.
In October of 2007 Captain Prummell was promoted to captain and placed in charge of the Investigations Division commanding all investigative sections and units within the
Sheriff’s Office. In January of 2009 he was transferred to be the Professional Standards Division Commander, overseeing the Internal Affairs Unit, Staff Inspections,
Accreditation, Research and Analysis, and Training. From February through May, he was also placed in temporary command of the Operational Support Division which included School Resource,
Traffic, K-9, Marine Patrol, Aviation, Volunteer Services, SWAT, Hostage Negotiations, Mounted Patrol, and Dive.
Captain Prummell holds a Bachelors Degree in Criminology with a minor in Psychology from St Leo College and a Masters in Business Administration from IMPAC University.
He has also successfully completed the Senior Leadership Program through FDLE.
