Lt. Rickey L. Hobbs

Lt. Rickey L. HobbsLt. Rickey L. Hobbs began his law enforcement career in March 1979 with the Naples Police Department. He attended Southwest Florida Police Academy and placed second in his class. During his tenure with the City of Naples, Lieutenant Hobbs served as a road patrol officer, Marine Officer and as a detective in the Criminal Investigation Division.

In 1985 Lt. Hobbs joined the Lee County Sheriff’s Office as a road deputy working in the South District. Soon thereafter he was transferred from Road Patrol to the Criminal Investigation Division as an Investigations Agent assigned to the East District. In 1986 Lieutenant Hobbs was selected for transfer to the newly formed Major Crime Unit of the Lee County Sheriff’s Office.

Lt. Hobbs joined the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office in 1989 and was assigned as a detective in District II. In 1992 he was transferred to the Major Crimes Unit which was responsible for the investigation of crimes such as homicide, robbery and sexual battery. Lt. Hobbs was promoted to corporal in April 1999 within the Major Crimes Unit. In addition to conducting investigations he was also assigned to supervise other areas within the unit such as Crime Scene and Crimes against Children.

Lt. Hobbs was promoted to sergeant in March 2003 and assigned to supervise a patrol squad in District 4. He returned to Criminal Investigations in 2004 and was assigned to supervise the District 4 Criminal Investigations Section. When Charlotte County was hit by Hurricane Charley in August 2004, Sgt. Hobbs was assigned as the District 4 Incident Commander, supervising and coordinating the disaster response in the District 4 area with Charlotte County and other assisting outside agencies.

Lt. Hobbs was promoted to lieutenant in March 2005 and assigned as a Watch Commander. In December 2007 he was assigned as Commander over District Investigations including Intelligence and Crime Analysis components. He served in this position until January 2009 when he was reassigned as Investigation Section Commander overseeing the Major Crimes Unit, Crimes Against Children Unit, Economic Crimes Unit, and the Computer Crimes Unit.

Lt. Hobbs graudated from Miami Dade Community College in 1976 with an Associate in Arts Degree. He also attended Florida International University and completed his Bachelor of Arts Degree from Saint Leo University in 2001.

Lt. Hobbs has been married to his high school sweetheart Loraine for 42 years. They had three children - Deanna, Dawn and Robert.
