The Sexual Predator and Offender Unit was created to address the growing number of sexual predators and offenders within Charlotte County. The mission of the
Sexual Predator and Offender Unit is to be proactive and aggressive in regards to monitoring and tracking sexual predators and offenders as well as enforcing
Florida State Statutes that relate their registration.
The Sexual Predator and Offender Unit is responsible for a variety of tasks including but not limited to:
- Bi-annual and quarterly re–registration
- Maintaining registration paperwork
- Neighborhood notifications
- Address verifications
- Initiating criminal cases in reference to suspected registration violations
- Working in conjunction with the State Attorney’s Office in prosecuting violators
- Locating and arresting absconders
- Gathering and analyzing intelligence
- Community awareness
The Florida Department of Law Enforcement public web site contains a map of sexual predators/offenders
living in Charlotte County. The Neighborhood Search function allows the user to enter any address in Florida and search for any registered sexual predators/offenders
living within a 1 to 5 mile radius of the address entered. Also available to the community on this site is the ability for citizens to receive automatic e-mail
notification of sexual predators/offenders that move near a specified address. This address is entered by the user and allows for the public to more closely
monitor sexual predators/offenders in their community.
