SHOCAP is an inter-agency information sharing and case management program, focusing on serious habitual juvenile offenders in the community. The SHOCAP investigator has varied duties, which include:
- Focuses on serious repeat juvenile offenders
- Identifies serious habitual offenders through the juvenile justice system
- Responds to the needs of these youth and their families
- Enhances the supervision of the serious habitual offenders, to prevent re-offending and reducing juvenile crime
- Attends juvenile court and gathers court information on juvenile offenders
- Prepares and disseminates a juvenile probation list
- Performs alone, and with the assistance of the road patrol division, probation checks on the youth who are on the probation list
The benefits of SHOCAP are enhancing communication between agencies, effective handling of serious offenders and reduction of crime within the community.
The agencies involved in SHOCAP are the sheriff’s office, other local law enforcement, the court system, the Department of Juvenile Justice, and the Charlotte County School Board.
