The School Resource Office program at the Charlotte County Sheriff's Office is a cooperative effort between the sheriff's office and the Charlotte County School Board.
Currently, full-time deputies are assigned to all high schools and middle schools in Charlotte County, as well as at The Academy, a drop-out prevention program at the vocational center.
School resource officers are on campus to carry out law enforcement duties, as well as teach prevention programs to the youth of the Charlotte County public school system.
The high school officers teach law classes to students, cover school security functions, mediate problems on campus, and make arrests for illegal activities occurring on their campuses.
The middle school officers teach G.R.E.A.T. (Gang Resistance Education and Training) to middle school students, and carry out the other duties that the high school officers do.
Being visible on Charlotte County campuses is a vital part of the school resource officer program, and our officers are mobile on campus, in the hallways, lunchrooms and administrative areas of the schools.
Additionally, the officers are accessible to students who wish to report criminal activity or other problems they are having on campus with other students, or within the community.
