School Resource Officers

The School Resource Officer program at the Charlotte County Sheriff's Office is a challenging and rewarding position where law enforcement officers are on the campuses of the schools. Charlotte County has school resource officers on the campuses of:

  • All three high schools (two deputies at each)
  • All four middle schools
  • Elementary schools (two deputies have five schools each)
  • Drop-out prevention school
  • Charlotte Harbor Center

The School Resource Officers interact with the staff and students on their campuses in many ways:

  • Teaching
  • Mentoring
  • Counseling
  • Sports programs
  • Law enforcement duties
  • Positive role model

This position is unique in that the deputy handles most of the same incidents that a road patrol deputy does, but within the school setting. This is a great opportunity to be a law enforcement officer and change the life of a young person, perhaps forever.
