Captain Sherman Robinson started his career in Law Enforcement in the 9th grade at the age of 14 by joining the Punta Gorda Police Dept. Explorer post. After graduating high school, in 1981
he graduated from the first part-time police academy held in the state of Florida hosted at the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office. He was hired full time by the Sheriff's Office in January 1983.
Captain Robinson spent the first 11 years of his career primarily on road patrol, with a short assignment to CID. While in Patrol, he was placed in charge of a Charlotte County
“First-In-Team”. The FIT is a Hurricane/disaster response team consisting of volunteers from all county departments and divisions.
In June 1995 Captain Robinson was promoted to the rank of 1st Sgt and assigned to the position of Countywide Supervisor. This was a Watch Commander position based out of the
Communications Center in Murdock. While in that position he became the liaison to the Emergency Operations Center which was located adjacent to the Communications Center. In 2001, Captain Robinson w
as promoted to lieutenant and assigned as the District Commander in District 3. In addition to his duties as a District Commander he was appointed as a member of the Punta Gorda Water Advisory Board,
Member of the Technical Advisory Committee (TAC) for the Metropolitan Planning Organization. (MPO), the Regional Domestic Security Task Force liaison, the Honor Guard, the Parking Enforcement
program coordinator, and was an armorer for the agency issued weapons. In 2005 he was transferred to District 2 and given the task of merging Districts 2 and 4 in to the Mid-County district.
Captain Robinson was promoted to his current rank in October 2007 and assigned as Commander of the Logistics Division.
Captain Robinson is a graduate of the 45th Command Officers Development School taught by the Southern Police Institute. He is currently enrolled in Edison College working
toward a degree in management.
Captain Robinson is married to Wendy, who is the District Investigations Secretary. They have two daughters.
