Business & Resident Alarms MUST be registered!
Dec 01, 2007 - More than 99% of the intrusion alarms received within Charlotte County are false. False alarms present a serious threat to the effectiveness of the Sheriff's Office and the safety of County citizens. False alarms are costly and dangerous because they divert deputies from proactive crime prevention efforts and delay responses to calls that may be true emergencies.
The Sheriff's Office program to reduce false alarms is up and running. With a new alarm ordinance implemented last January, new citations and mandatory registration for each business or residence are now required. If you have a residential or business alarm, you must go to one of the four Sheriff's District Offices to register:
District-1, Englewood, 6868 San Casa Dr., (941) 575-9005 District-2, Port Charlotte, 3280 Tamiami Trail (Promenades Mall), (941)258-3900 District-3, Punta Gorda, 7474 Utilities Road, (941) 575-5370
When a False Alarm Notification become a citations, $25, $50, and so on, the business or home owner is be responsible to send payment to the Clerk of the Courts. Registration and enforcement is the responsibility of the Sheriff's Office. Once a citation is issued, you must deal directly with the Clerks office, not the Sheriff.
