Deputies shoot man w/2 runs

Nov 07, 2009 - ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: MCU detectives identified the man who was shot as George Lafferty, 12/16/1946. Charges are pending at this time. Charlotte County Sheriff's Major Crimes Unit detectives are investigating an incident in Port Charlotte that involved deputies shooting a man who pointed a shotgun and a revolver at them.

At 1:13 a.m., CCSO received a call to 3490 Cohoes St., in regards to a domestic incident where the husband threatened his spouse with a gun inside their home. Deputies responded and upon arrival the man exited the home by the front door and was armed with a shotgun and a revolver. The man refused to follow orders to drop his weapons in close range of the officers. The man pointed the weapons at the deputies and they fired, striking him. The man was airlifted to Lee Memorial Hospital Trauma Center; his condition is not known at this time.

Both deputies are on paid administrative leave which is routinely done pending outcome of the shooting investigation. Names and further details of those involved are not being released at this time as this open investigation continues.
