Our Sheriff, Bill Cameron

Bill Cameron

Sheriff Bill Cameron first came to the Charlotte County Sheriff's Office when he was appointed as Sheriff by Governor Jeb Bush in December 2003. He started his law enforcement career in 1982 as a member of the Fort Myers Police Department. In 1987 he joined the Lee County Sheriff's Office where he worked for 17 years, reaching the rank of captain. After serving as Sheriff for more than a year, John Davenport, the newly elected Sheriff, asked Bill to stay on with the agency as the Chief Deputy.

Sheriff Cameron has a Master's degree in Business, a Bachelor's degree in Executive Management and as Associates degree in Criminal Justice. He is a graduate of the F.B. I. National Academy in Quantico, Virginia and the Southern Police Institute in Louisville, Kentucky. He is a faculty member of IMPAC University, the Southwest Florida Criminal Justice Academy and the U.S. Department of Justice/Regional Community Policing Institute.

Within the community, Sheriff Cameron is the chairman of Drug Free Charlotte, the anti-drug coalition, and he serves on the Board of Directors for the Southwest Florida Addiction Services, St. Vincent DePaul Community Health Care, Charlotte County Children's Service Council, FGCU Charlotte County Advisory Board, Charlotte Regional Hospital Advisory Committee, Homeless Coalition Genesis Center Advisory Committee and is a graduate of Leadership Charlotte. Sheriff Cameron is also a proud member of the Kiwanis Club of Punta Gorda.
