In 1999, the county purchased a former manufacturing building located at 7474 Utilities Road in Punta Gorda for the Sheriff's Office. The building actually faces Golf Course Blvd. Because the building had originally been a manufacturing facility, the building address referenced the location of the loading bays located at the back of the building. The front portion of the building had office space, but the back two-thirds of the building had to be remodeled to accommodate the various Sheriff's Office functions. Many of the administrative functions, such as the Sheriff's Command Staff, Human Resources, Records and Information Technology were able to move into the new facilities in late 1999. The remodeling was completed in mid-2000 and other units were able to move into new quarters. This photograph was taken after the administrative personnel had moved in, but before the remodeling was complete.
